It is important to let a little girl display her individuality.  Having a lot of versatile pieces in her wardrobe allows her to mix and match and accessorize with her own personal spin.  She can be true to herself while showing the world her unique qualities.

Jeggings, a graphic tee, and a cute hoodie or cozy cardigan sweater are easy for every day and every climate.  Pair with our Gold "Funky" Sneakers to complete the outfit.

Every girl loves a twirly dress.  This cute ditsy floral dress looks awesome with a cable knit cardigan sweater, a cute flower hair accessories and would go great with these Pink Dew "Twirl" Mary Jane's.

Sleeveless tunics with printed leggings are very versatile throughout the season.  Layer on a denim jacket when the weather gets cool for some added style. This outfit looks fabulous with our classic "Dolly" Mary Janes in Antique White

Skinny leg jeans and tons of tees are so easy for every day wear.  Pair with "Runny" Girls Sneakers and you will be ready to take on the day!

Stay true to your little girls spirit with the traditional romper.  So sweet and adorable.  Looks great with some tights and our black "Strappy" T-straps.

Boys Tiny Style

You know the saying... boys will be boys.  Most little boys are rugged and need attire that fits their naturally adventurous spirit.  Choose pieces that are comfortable, functional and keep him looking handsome all season long.

Take a classic pair of cargo pants, a cute graphic tee and then layer with a button up plaid shirt for the ultimate playground attire.  Finish off with a pair of "Dusk" Sneakers

A Raglan Baseball Shirt with a pair of jeans and layered with a cozy sherpa-lined hoodie is the perfect outfit for a crisp autumn day.  Wear with our "Runny" Boys Sneakers for flawless style.

For the "preppy" look it's so easy to take a pair of graphite pants, match with a plaid colorful button up and top with a timeless sweater vest. Finish off the look with a pair of "Steppy" slip-ons.

For a super casual look, pair a striped thermal henley with a pair of roll-up joggers.  Looks awesome with our Torch red "Miller" shoes.

There is nothing easier or more comfortable then throwing on a crew or vneck tee and pairing with some sweats or wind pants.  This sporty look pairs great with our "Jump" Sneaker in grey.

"When do I need baby walking shoes? How do I know what size to buy?"

These are questions that a lot of our parents are asking and thinking, so we at Friendly Rooster are here to help. It can be difficult to decide when to buy those first baby walking shoes so we have compiled some tips and recommendations to assist you.

When babies are first beginning the walking stage, it is okay for them to stay barefoot or in socks as they develop their balancing skills.  It is amazing how quickly baby's walking skills and independence develops. Before you know it, they will want to be free to explore outside areas and public places.  Infant shoes play a significant role in the development and health of a child's foot so you should be prepared with a good walking shoe (or 2) for when this stage occurs. Below are some tips to use when buying and sizing new footwear for your children.

Average Growth Rate

Up until the first year, the average child's foot grows about one shoe size every 3 months.  After the first year, you can estimate one size every 6 months.  Of course this is an estimate and every child's rate of growth will vary.  A good strategy to use is determine their newborn shoe size and then take regular measurements to come up with an estimate of how quickly your child's foot grows. Children sometimes go through sudden growth spurts so don't be surprised if they quickly outgrow their last pair of shoes.  By knowing their typical growth rate, it will be easier to buy shoes in advance for upcoming seasons.

Measuring for your Baby Walking Shoes

Get a sheet of paper, pen or pencil, and measuring tape.  You can sit your child down on a lifted surface or hold them up in a standing position (might be easier if you have a helper).
Place their foot flat on the piece of paper and make the following marks:

              1. Front of big toe
              2. Behind the heel
              3. Both sides of the widest part of their foot

Then take your measuring tape and measure from the heel to the big toe in inches or centimeters. Next, measure the width of your child's foot, although it is likely that you may not need width unless you require a custom fit.

Purchasing your baby walking shoes

In the early stages, it is not necessary that shoes have support features since their feet and arches are still developing.  Below is your checklist to follow while purchasing your baby walking shoes.
  • Feet are covered.
  • Shoes are snug enough that they do not slip off or slide around but should not pinch their feet.
  • There should be a good grip on the bottom to reduce the amount of falls (although inevitable - thank goodness for that padded diaper).
  • Shoes are flexible and do not need to be 'broken in'.
  • Comfortable so baby will not mind keeping them on.
  • If shoes are higher, such as high-tops or boots, be sure that ankle movement is not restricted.
  • There should be a half inch of space at the toe (remember those measurements you took??)
  • Have the baby test the shoes out and make sure they are walking well without tripping.

That's it!  Now you are ready to size and purchase your baby walking shoes!

It's time for another installment of "What We're Wearing" and we have decided to highlight Tea Collection.

Tea Collection. There are so many great things to say about this children’s clothing line; from its deliciously soft cotton fabric, to its global inspiration, to its vibrant pattern and color usage. The company started in 2002 and has since elevated to be the well-known company it is today.

Tea Collection’s current inspiration is India and we may be partial, but we believe our shoes are a perfect match for their clothing! Here are some examples below of how to mix and match Tea Collection with Friendly Rooster.

Other News: We just sent out pairs of charity shoes to our partners so that impoverished American children can have a safe, dependable pair of shoes to get them off on the right foot!

What We're Wearing: Vol.1 (Mini Boden)

Being a website that only offers shoes/accessories, we like to have fun and imagine what our shoes would be like with some of the popular children’s clothing brands on the market. In this series, "What We’re Wearing", we will highlight our products alongside our favorite clothing lines to create a complete ensemble!

First up we have Mini Boden. Mini Boden is the children’s line from a great British company called Boden. Boden introduced their line for little people in 1996 and its popularity has grown immensely. A Baby Boden offshoot was also created in 2007.

We love Mini Boden because it is playful, colorful, and unique. The clothes go well with Friendly Rooster shoes because the pieces are vibrant and the attitude is fresh and young. Boden also shares our desire to be green by practicing ethical trade and using recycled paper for their printed materials. Learn more about these endeavors here

Here is a small sampling of what Friendly Rooster paired with Mini Boden might look like.

What outfit ideas do you have? Any children's brands we should highlight?
